about this site...
HOLLYWOOD COWBOY COLLECTIBLES is about the Hollywood cowboys heroes of yesteryear and the vast array of collectible merchandise they left us. Here you will be able to find information about your favorite cowboy hero, and up to date on line auctions featuring popular Hollywood cowboy collectibles.
The 1930's, 40's, 50's and 60's are considered the "golden age of cowboys". During this era cowboy fever blossomed, and so too did Hollywood cowboy collectibles. Mass merchandisers like Sears and Montgomery Wards where devoting entire departments to western related merchandise. Toy guns and holster sets could be found everywhere. Cowboy hero watches, hats, boots, shirts, vests and chaps sold like hot cakes. Bedspreads, curtains, lamps and clocks with cowboy characters on them decorated rooms throughout suburbia. On every breakfast table was a cereal box that contained cowboy rings, badges, figures, games and puzzles, or coupons to send off for even larger desirables. And what child of that era didn't have the image of his favorite hero on the lunch box they toted to school?
Today, as the baby boomers of that era mature, these items represent a highly collectible arena. Nostalgia for the toys and memorabilia of that era, as well as a fondness for the simpler times before high tech computer games and the internet, are driving collectors to seek out and gobble up Hollywood cowboy collectibles. Unfortunately, with the passage of forty to eighty years many of these items have disappeared. Most simply wore out and where thrown away. But some survived - those that where put away in attic storage boxes and on basement shelves. Today, depending on condition, they command upward spiraling prices, as enthusiasts vie to possess a connection with the past.
I am a child of the 1940's and 50's. I can remember going to the Saturday cowboy double feature movie for ten cents. I fondly remember dressing up in cowboy boots and hats, strapping on cap pistols and dreaming about riding and fighting next to my cowboy hero as we brought justice to the old west. And, of course, I remember our first television in the early 50's, and running home from school so I wouldn't miss my favorite cowboy as he rode out of the small screen and into our living room.
This site is dedicated to the memories of those Hollywood cowboys and the enormous number of collectibles they left us. It is divided into two areas. The first is about the Hollywood cowboys themselves with tributes to their accomplishments and their memories. The second area is devoted to their collectibles - the merchandise, advertising premiums and logo items they endorsed. Here you will be able to find catalogs, price guides, and instructions on how to find the value of your collectibles; along with up to date eBay auctions featuring popular Hollywood cowboy collectibles.
