As a western cowboy hero Gene's popularity was legendary. Throughout the 1930s Gene Autry was by far America's Favorite Cowboy, and by 1940 he was also the fourth biggest box office draw, behind only Mickey Rooney, Clark Gable, and Spencer Tracy. Then after serving his country in WWII he became one of the first major movie stars to move into television. At the height of his career in the early 1950's, he was receiving thousands fan letters each week and endless requests to make public appearances.

By the mid 1950's Gene Autry was the standard barer for Hollywood cowboys and western singers. And of course their was no shortage of Gene Autry merchandise including hats, gun belts, plastic toys, games, lunch boxes, clothing, comic books, cereal premiums, bedspreads, lamps and much more. Merchandisers knew that if they put Gene Autry's name on an item it would be gobbled up his fans.

Today those Gene Aurty logo items are cherished and sought after by enthusiasts around the world. The market for Hollywood cowboy collectibles has become very active, as many of the same fans that grew up with Gene as their cowboy hero in the fifties are now avid collectors.
